A PMHNP is a specialized nurse practitioner (NP) who focuses on providing mental health care, including assessment, diagnosis, treatment (including medication management), and therapy for individuals with mental health conditions.

Your initial visit will include an evaluation of your full medical, psychiatric, psycho-social, and family history in conjunction with your present symptoms. An accurate medical history is important to obtain at this first visit because certain medical conditions can present with psychiatric symptoms. Prior to this visit you will be sent an e-mail invitation asking you to register with our patient portal. Please remember to complete the New Patient Questionnaires in your patient portal prior to your first visit. During this session, your treatment goals will be discussed in depth and a full treatment plan (including medications, complementary and alternative medicine, and/or psychotherapy if needed) will be prescribed.
Psychiatric medication management involves the careful prescribing, monitoring, and adjusting of medications used to treat mental health disorders. It plays a vital role in psychiatric care, requiring collaboration between the psychiatrist, the patient, and sometimes other healthcare providers.
